Denise Elaine Clark was born on September 14, 1961, in Tulare, California to Arthur and Peggy Hale and passed away at her home surrounded by her family on December 8, 2023. The youngest of four girls, she attended elementary school at Maple School, junior high at Mulcahy Middle School and graduated from Tulare Western High School in 1979. Denise married the love of her life, Tom Clark on July 6, 1979. They made their first home together in Tulare near Garden School and in November 1979 they welcomed their daughter, Ami. In 1981, they welcomed their first son, Chad and in 1985, they welcomed their youngest son, Drew. In 1993, they fulfilled a lifelong dream and built a home together out in the country.
Denise was a devoted wife and mother, and family was everything to her. She immersed herself in any and everything that had to do with her children. She was an active member of PTA and Parent’s Club, taking on the roles of room mother as well as leadership positions at Garden School, Buena Vista School, and St. Aloysius School where her children attended. Denise was responsible for starting the 4-H program at Buena Vista School and was the Community Club Leader and Project Leader for eight years. She also poured herself into her children’s extracurricular activities. She was a Girl Scouts leader for Troop 366 for five years and Unit Leader President for one year, Cub Scout Leader for four years and Pinewood Derby Chair for three years, AYSO and Little League Team Mom and was a Cheerleading Coach for Tulare Youth Football for five years. Throughout the years, Denise worked outside the home in various capacities; as a sales representative at Tower Gifts in Tulare, as a computer instructor at St. Aloysius School, a sales representative at Pacific Treasures & Gourmet in Visalia, and as Community Services Supervisor for the City of Tulare. She was passionate about her involvement in service organizations in the community as a member of Noon Kiwanis, California Women in Agriculture, Les Petit Amis, and Las Madrinas Guild. One of the highlights of her volunteering career was pioneering the first annual Las Madrinas Guild Holiday Luncheon benefiting Valley Children’s Healthcare. She was awarded the John Conway “Volunteer of the Year” by Tulare Volunteer Bureau and received an Honorary Service Award Lifetime Membership by PTA.
Denise’s favorite role in her life was that of Mimi to her beloved grandchildren. She poured her heart into weekly craft days which she named Mimi Days and her annual Camp Mimi campout with her grandchildren. Her world revolved around her “sugars”, and she created indelible memories to be cherished by them forever.
Denise is preceded in death by her father, Arthur Hale and sister Diane Shields, her in-laws Don and Joan Clark. She is survived by her loving family: husband Tom Clark, daughter Ami Simoni and husband, Dino Jr., son Chad Clark, son Drew Clark and wife, Jamie; grandchildren Kate Clark, Aidan and Rhys Archer, Hailey and Darren Clark; her mother, Peggy Hale-Sligar, sister Debbie Sweeney and sister Susan Jarrett; many nieces and nephews.
