John Elmano Simoes peacefully passed away with family by his side on April 24, 2024, at the age of 85. John was proceeded in death by his sister Mary Edith Oliveira and his parents Olivia Martins and Isaias Simoes. John is survived by his wife Eduarda (Edie) Simoes, his three children and 7 grandchildren: Eric Simoes and his son Spencer Simoes, John (Brianne) Simoes and their children Gianni and Niko, Tania (Michael) Ribeiro and their children Isabella, John Michael, Lilyanah and Jameson and his siblings: Joe Simoes (Inez), Mario Simoes (Gloria), Rico Simoes (Nadine), Carol Raulino, Nivia Fernandes, Zita Simoes (Phil), Olivia Souza, Frank Simoes (Pricilla) and Phyliss Lowe (Tom). John was born in Santa Barbara, Terceira on October 7, 1938 to Olivia Martins and Isaias Simoes. John traveled to the United States with his father and four of his siblings at the age of 12. They settled on a dairy farm in Tipton, California. From there John went to live with family on the west side of Tulare to work on their farm. Job opportunities and an adventurous spirit would send John to Orange County, California where he worked various jobs and made many friends. He later married Eduarda (Edie) Melo on September 16, 1970, in Sao Sebastian, Terceira, Acores. They returned to Southern California where they lived for 20 years. He worked long hours with a full-time job while together with Edie, maintaining and managing their apartment complexes. John’s desire to return to the farm life would call him back to the Valley. John, Edie and their children moved to Tipton, California in 1990 and later to Tulare where John lived out the remainder of his life. John and Edie were married for 53 years. Together they traveled the world, enjoyed the beach, and loved being their children and grandchildren. His legacy will be a strong work ethic, determination to press on, and the wisdom he shared with his family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Miller's Tulare Funeral Home.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024, 6:00 p.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 125 E. Pleasant Avenue, Tulare
Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, 10:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 125 E. Pleasant Avenue, Tulare, with burial at North Tulare Public Cemetery, 4462 North J Street, Tulare
