Neil Kasbergen Obituary

The Lord called Neil Kasbergen home on April 16, 2018, at the age of 91, after a prolonged illness. Neil was born on October 12, 1926 to Cornelius and Maria Kasbergen in Oudewater, the Netherlands. He spent the first 26 years of his life in Holland. He immigrated to the United States in 1952, where he first worked on a dairy for Cor Van Dam in La Mirada, CA.

He met the love of his life, Martha, at an Dutch dance and was married on December 14, 1955. They went on a honeymoon to Holland, spending time visiting family and friends. They made several trips to Holland thereafter, the last one including all their children and grandchildren a trip that no one will ever forget. In 1956, shortly after Neil and Martha were married, his dream of having his own farm became reality. They started their dairy farm with Neil's best friends, Hans and Betty Nederend, in Ontario, California.

The early years were filled with hard work on the farm. But Sundays were truly a day of rest. Sunday was family day, church, trips to Anaheim park, beaches, and family gatherings were the norm. Neil also enjoyed playing cards often with his friends. A "hobby" that Neil developed was buying and selling real estate. He loved the art of the deal. In his lifetime he bought and sold over 85 properties.

A special tradition that started over 11 years ago was the annual family reunion in Huntington Beach. Neil looked forward to each morning, when he and Martha would have breakfast with the family. He even recently mentioned that he was looking forward to the trip this year. Neil would spend hours viewing photo albums of these trips. Those times will forever be etched in the memories of the Kasbergen family.

In 2007, after spending over 50 years in Southern California, Neil and Martha moved to Tulare, California. They enjoyed the neighborhood with great new friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Kumar, and Dr. Gupta for their great care of Neil. They would also like to thank all the caregivers who have not only provided nurturing care but have become part of our family. Neil is survived by his four children, Cornell (Teri), George, Diane (Andy) and Jack (Ellie Mae) 16 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren, as well as his sisters Sjaan, Dora, Mies, and Josephine, his brothers Adrie, Jack, and Leo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Martha, his infant daughter Darlene, his sister Riet, and brothers, Anton, Theo, Wim, and Herman.

Neil spoke often how proud he was to be an American. It was truly the land of opportunity, and he was blessed to have made the decision to come to America. The American military holds a special place in the hearts of both Neil and Martha. They spoke often how grateful they are to the American military that freed Holland from Nazi rule during WWII. In honor of all that have served in the military, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to:

Neil, had a great sense of humor, a passion for Agriculture and Real Estate, and love of family, he will be dearly missed! We are glad that he is dancing in heaven with his wife Martha, and reunited with his daughter, family, and friends! Until we meet again.
